The Mondial de l’Auto 2024 in Paris, which took place from 14 to 20 October, marks the comeback of one of the world’s most prestigious motor shows, after a disappointing 2022 edition and the spectacular failure of this year’s Geneva Motor Show. In 2022, the Mondial lost some of its glory, with fewer major manufacturers taking part. This year, the show regained its reputation as a truly international exhibition, thanks to the comeback of European manufacturers who were ready to give the event a boost. The Lizeo teams were onsite to take a closer look at the trends and new products at the show.
The 2024 edition of the Paris Motor Show is being held at a time when the automotive industry is having to rethink itself in the face of ecological and economic challenges. The disappointment of the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year left enthusiasts hungry for more, and this Paris Motor Show is seen as an opportunity to recapture the essence of the great shows that showcase new products, captivate the public, and highlight innovations.
In 2022, the Paris Motor Show suffered from a lack of participation from the major brands, as COVID-19 and the rapid transformation of the sector pushed the event into the background. But in 2024, the major European manufacturers, who were not present or did not make their presence felt at the previous event, are back to showcase their new products. Renault, Peugeot, and Citroën, as well as German giants such as Audi and BMW, have made major announcements, illustrating their desire to return to the spotlight and contribute to the success of the show. This strong comeback by international car manufacturers reaffirms the need to revive sales in a struggling market.

The Mondial de l’Auto 2024 naturally put the spotlight on electric vehicles, with iconic models such as the Renault 5 and the Peugeot e-408, as well as those from Asian brands such as XPeng, LeapMotor and BYD. In line with market demand, the majority of vehicles at the show were SUVs, while sedans and coupes were in short supply.
The revival of the Mondial was also reflected by the increased participation of start-ups and new brands, particularly in the field of mobility solutions. Innovations such as La Bagnole of Kilow and the Mobilize Duo and Bento (presented by the Renault group) showed that the show is no longer just a showcase for cars, but is becoming a place where the future of mobility is shaped and discussed.

Paris Motor Show 2024 was also marked by the strong comeback of Concept Cars. BMW, Renault, and Citroën unveiled their concepts to illustrate the stylistic and technical directions they will be taking in the near future. As evidenced at the show, concept cars are no longer simple styling exercises reserved for engineers or designers as they were in the 2000s. They now foreshadow vehicles often close to mainstream production.
Major motor shows are no longer the image showcases they were a decade ago, with prestige cars largely absent. Manufacturers now focus on the core of the market and avoid showcasing sports or driving pleasure models.

The Mondial de Paris 2024 provided an opportunity to discover a host of new models. The Audi A5, A6, Q5 and Q6, as well as the Volkswagen Tayron, Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq, made their public debut at the show. As for the Asian manufacturers seeking to make their mark on the European market, brands such as GAC, Forthing and Aito presented enticing products able to seduce motorists with attractive prices.
This year, all eyes were on the Renault group, which stunned the show with gigantic stands and seductive new products. The Dacia Bigster and Renault 5 are already seen as potential bestsellers in their respective segments, thanks to their attractive design and affordable price. However, the real star of the show was undoubtedly the Renault 4, which made its global debut. This newcomer won over the public with its spaciousness, attractive design, and the option for a canvas sunroof, which had almost disappeared from the market.
